Thank you for 2017
2017 was a very progressive year for us and the kids, all thanks to your generosity!
Our fourth edition of the Christmas Camp was a great success with over 2.500 participants attending from all over Uganda. A week in Kayunga, a week of fun, football and learning!
We organised our second yet biggest edition of the Primary Schools League with 22 schools and over 500 pupils took part between March and August.
We organised the fifth edition of the Slums Derby, and it was another amazing weekend with over 700 boys and girls.
The Football 4 WASH programme continues to be a great fun-filled yet educative initiative. Kids continue to learn about Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) through football exercises. Now we even have a Masters’ thesis written about it, and with over 20 schools in Karamoja, our partners Viva con Agua and ourselves continue to plan big for the next steps.
Girls football continues to rise. We tested the waters by hosting a primary school girls’ football gala, and we pulled it off just well. The girls’ editions of the Slums Derby and the Christmas Camp were well attended too.
Our internal teams of Sparta 09 continue to offer opportunities for more kids to play, to compete and to progress in their lives and careers. They won the U15’s Kampala Regional League this year, and we couldn’t have been happier. Holiday time have been, and continue to be, a time to connect, to play and to enjoy sometime together with the kids.
We hosted Coaches Across Continents (CAC) and over 80 community coaches from our network attended the one week training on Football for Social Impact.
The boys and girls continue to graduate from boys to men. This year, Kizza Mustafa, Frank ‘Zaga’ Tumwesigye and Mugume Ashraf Bamuturaki ‘Fadiga’ all graduated to senior teams at KCCA F.C and Vipers SC respectively. Both Kizza and Zaga were part of the U20 national team at the COSAFA Championship in Zambia, and they impressed.
This year we brought learning and smiles to more than 4,000 kids, thanks to our football programmes both in Central Uganda and Football 4 WASH with Viva con Agua and Welthungerhilfe in Karamoja region.
Every kid’s smile made us more motivated to bring more smiles to more kids.
Thank you for all the support. Every single donation moved us closer to our objective of empowering, mobilising and educating slum kids through football.
All the advice we received from each one of you helped to make us better as individuals and as the organisation on the whole.
Most importantly, every minute of volunteerism made our work possible. All the volunteers that came through to ensure the success of the Christmas Camp, the Slums Derby, the Primary Schools League and every other programme this year, you made, and still make, us what we are.
Thanks to all the kids who are part of the “Football Made In Slums!” 2017 story, the coaches and all the supporters, partners and donors.
Thank you for 2017, and Happy holidays. A very merry Christmas and a happy new year.
